The Alaska Aces gun for their third straight win against the Barangay Ginebra Kings today in the first game of the 37th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Colisuem.
Alaska started the season with five straight losses but has shown some signs of improvement of late thus boosting its playoff drive.
The Aces are on a two-game winning run, winning three of their four games.
Alaska’s first win was a, 93-72 trashing of the formidable Barako Bull Energy but faltered again in their next outing after bowing to the Petron Blaze Boosters, 80-86.
The Aces again went into another slide after losing to the B-Meg Llamados in double overtime, 92-89.
Article continues after this advertisementAlaska avoided a third straight defeat when it mangled the Powerade Tigers, 121-111, before completing its first winning streak of the season by surviving the Shopinas.com Clickers, 86-80.
Article continues after this advertisementThat mini run pulled the Aces out of the bottom two as they tied the Tigers at eighth place with similar 3-7 (win-loss) records.
Tournament format states that the number 10 and nine teams after the eliminations will be booted out.
Alaska is also eyeing some sort of revenge as it lost to the Kings in their initial meeting last Oct. 9, 72-83.
Ginebra ist at seventh place with 4-5 card and is coming off a, 76-88 loss against the B-Meg Llamados. That loss spoiled Ginebra’s new recruit Rico Maierhofer, who scored just two points against his former team.
Meanwhile, the Barako Bull Energy try to snap a two-game slide when they play the Meralco Bolts.
The Energy are at sixth spot with a 5-4 record, while the Bolts are 6-4 for a tie at fifth place with the Llamados.
