Woman, child killed as tricycle collides with bus in Zamboanga

PAGADIAN CITY – A three-year-old child and a 36-year old woman died when the tricycle they were on collided with a bus in Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, the police confirmed Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Edwin Verzon, Zamboanga Sibugay police spokesperson, identified the child as Justin Perarin and the woman as Jovelyn Reyes Suico.

Verzon said the tricycle, which was carrying 11 passengers, came from the public cemetery and was traversing the Zamboanga national highway in Barangay Kimos at 5:56 p.m. Monday when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The trike crossed to the opposite lane and was rammed by a Zamboanga City-bound Rural Transit.

Nine other tricycle passengers were hurt including three children, according to Verzon.

The tricycle driver, who was unhurt, surrendered to the police. /cbb
