Cop killed in ambush in Sorsogon

LEGAZPI CITY — Suspected members of New People’s Army waylaid and killed a police officer in Pilar town in Sorsogon province on Monday afternoon.

PO1 Darwin Borsil, 34, who was assigned at Castilla Municipal Police Station, was on his motorcycle when he was ambushed by more or less five armed men in Barangay Naspi at around 5:50 p.m., according to Senior Supt. Marlon Tejada, director of the Sorsogon Police Provincial Office.

The officer died instantly from multiple gunshot wounds.

Tejada said the slain officer was on his way back to his police station after visiting his wife in Barangay Lourdes, also in Pilar.

The combined elements of Pilar and Castilla police responded to the place of the inciden to conduct pursuit operations. /atm
