Zambo detainees cut cell’s lock, walk out of jail

ZAMBOANGA CITY – At least 17 detainees broke out of the Zamboanga City Police Station 6 jail here shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Five of the escapees have been recaptured, according to Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar, who rushed to the police station following the jailbreak.

Inspector Shellamae Tubo-Chang, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said initial investigation showed that the detainees sawed off their cell’s padlock and casually walked out of the facility, using the main entrance of the police station.

Two police guards have been suspended and are now under investigation, Chang said.

Tubo-Chang said the city had been put on lockdown in a bid to intercept the fugitives. /cbb
