The Clark International Airport management on Wednesday said it was aiming to serve at least two million passengers in 2018 following record-breaking numbers of passenger movement at the airport.

Alexander Cauguiran, president and chief executive officer of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), noted a continuously increasing daily passenger volume at the airport.

For March alone, the airport in Pampanga counted a total of 215,040 passengers. Meanwhile, “the highest number of travelers served in just a day” was on April 2 with 8,322, Cauguiran said.

So the first three months of the year, 600,811 passengers passed through Clark, he said.

“These numbers are the highest, so far, in the history of CIAC since 1995,” Cauguiran said in a statement.

Clark currently handles an average of 7,000 daily passengers and 481 weekly flights, of which 158 are international and 323 are domestic, Cauguiran said.

“At this rate and with the full support of the Duterte administration, we will be able to break the 2017 record of 1.5 million passengers and will probably reach the two million mark this year,” he added.

Airlines operating at Clark International Airport include Asiana Airlines, Cathay Dragon, Cebu Pacific, Emirates, Jetstar Asia, Jinair, AirAsia Philippines, Philippine Airlines, Qatar Airways and Scoot. Chartered flights are operated by AirSwift and Alphaland Aviation.

“There is definitely a surge at Clark airport in terms of the number of flights, destinations and passenger volume, along with the improvements of its facilities, all largely possible under the leadership of President Duterte,” Cauguiran said. /cbb
