2 men shot dead in separate QC incidents

MANILA, Philippines—Two men were gunned down for still unknown reasons in separate incidents in just a span of three hours since Sunday night in Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police District has named one of the victims as Alfred Armenta, 24, a helper and resident of Barangay Payatas B. The other remains unidentified.

Armenta was already dead when he was found by bystanders early Monday in his neighborhood while the unidentified victim was discovered Sunday night in Barangay Commonwealth.

Insp. Elmer Monsalve, homicide chief of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said both victims suffered several gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Armenta was found bloodied and lifeless in front of the Automatic Tubig Machine shop at the corner of Empire St. and Payatas Rd. in Barangay Payatas B at around 2:40 a.m. Monday.

Police said no one has come forward to recount the circumstances behind the shooting.

Monsalve, however, noted that Armenta had injuries to the back of his head which indicated he was hit with a hard object.

The other unidentified victim died on the spot after two assailants shot him at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The shooting incident happened at the corner of V.V. Soliven St. and Commonwealth Ave. in Barangay Commonwealth.

Monsalve described the man as between 34 to 40 years old, fair skinned, of medium built and 5’2” to 5’5” in height.

The victim also sported a tattoo of the word “Rose” on his left chest and wore a white shirt, cream-colored shorts, and a white ball cap.

A witness told police that two assailants armed with pistols had chased the suspect along V.V. Soliven St. on Sunday night.

Upon reaching Commonwealth Ave., the witness saw the victim fall after hearing three gunshots. The assailants then fired two more shots at the victim who was already sprawled on the street.

The witness reported the incident to barangay officials, who arrived on the scene to find the victim dead.

Police were still investigating to determine the motives behind the two shooting incidents.
