LUCENA CITY – A 52-year-old farmer was shot and killed by a drunk in Sariaya town in Quezon province Saturday night, police said.

A report from the Quezon police office said Teodolfo De Chavez was walking home in Barangay (village) Sampaloc Bugon at about 9 p.m. when Julio Custodio met him and allegedly shot him repeatedly without any apparent reason using a 40-caliber pistol.

After the shooting, the gunman fled on foot while De Chavez lay bloodied. The victim died on the spot from a bullet wound in the head.

Quoting information from villagers, police investigators learned that the suspect was under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident. Police are conducting an operation to arrest the suspect. /cbb
