Chief Insp. Joselito Araja, San Narciso police chief, said motorcycle riders were prohibited from wearing helmets in the town proper for security reasons.

“There’s a prevailing local ordinance against wearing a helmet for motorcycle rider,” Araja said in a phone interview.

Wearing crash helmets for motorcyclist riders is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054, otherwise known the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. But some local government units have adopted the “no helmet” policy inside the town proper following the involvement of motorcycle riders wearing helmets in criminal activities. /cbb
