Groups seize P500,000 worth of illegal logs in Bulacan
CITY OF MALOLOS — Illegally cut logs and flitches of “lawaan,” guijo and gmelina worth P500,000 were seized in a series of operations at the Angat Dam watershed by environmental teams aided by Dumagat villagers.
On Saturday, 20 men from the provincial anti-illegal logging task force and Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Society Inc. seized 134 logs and flitches worth P109,000 in Doña Remedios Trinidad town.
They also arrested three people suspected to be involved in illegal logging and recovered 16 carabaos used to transport the logs.
On Feb. 8, the teams seized illegally cut logs worth P180,000. They found about 70 men hauling the logs but they all fled aboard motorcycles during the operation. —Carmela Reyes-Estrope
