DAGUPAN CITY—An 8-year-old boy drowned in a fish pond in Malasiqui town in Pangasinan province on Monday.

Adriele Justine Poquiz was dead when he reached the Blessed Family Doctor’s Hospital in San Carlos City, where rescuers took him along with 6-year-old Andrie Jello dela Cuadra, who survived.

Supt. Cirilo Acosta Jr., Malasiqui police chief, said Poquiz, Dela Cuadra and three other children were playing near the pond in Barangay (village) Aliaga about 4 p.m. when four of them decided to take a dip in the pond.

Moments later, he said, the children cried out for help when Poquiz and Dela Cuadra were dragged into the deep portion of the pond.

They were pulled out by John Ramil Menor and Mark Kim Magumpara, who happened to be passing near the pond at that time.
