Makati bans minors at tricycle backseats

/ 06:32 AM December 29, 2017

The Makati City Council has passed an ordinance prohibiting minors to ride at the backseat of a tricycle, as well as riding on motorcycles.

City Ordinance No. 2017-135, titled Children’s Safety in Tricycles and Motorcycles Ordinance of the City of Makati, bans tricycles operating within the city roads from conveying children below 18 years old to be seated in front or at the back of the tricycle’s driver seat.

It also prohibits driving a motorcycle with a child on board unless certain conditions are met.

The ordinance took effect on Dec. 22, but City Hall wanted to see its results when classes resume by first week of January. —Dexter Cabalza
