A woman lost cash to two swindlers  who pretended they were looking for a rent-a-car in barangay Basak, Mandaue City, last Tuesday.

Julie Alvarez of San Remigio town, northern Cebu, told police that she lost P33,000 and other personal belongings to the two con artists.

She said she was walking along J.P. Rizal Street looking for car shops selling second-hand multicabs when she met a woman  who introduced herself as a businesswoman looking for a rent-a-car.

The two strangers later said they had to go somewhere but were afraid they would get held up on the street. They asked Alvarez to hold on to their pouch   for safekeeping, saying it  contained P10,000. They convinced her to give them her shoulder bag.

Then the couple immediately boarded a taxi.

Alvarez discovered that she was duped when she found bundles of paper inside the bag.

Police were unable to locate the swindlers. /REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
