“At sana yung ating kapulisan walang gagawa ng masama, walang gagawa ng pag-abuso, lahat dapat ay disiplinado at sumusunod sa rule of law,” he added.

(And I hope our police force will no longer commit wrong doings, no more abuses, all of you are disciplined and following the rule of law.)

Last Dec. 13, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would extend Dela Rosa’s term for about two to three months before he appoints him as the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) leader.

The PNP chief is set to retire on Jan. 21, 2018 when he turns 56 – the mandatory age of retirement in the uniformed service.

“This is my last Christmas kasi ‘di na naman siguro ako i-extend ng Presidente until December 2018, so I presume this is my last Christmas,” he said.

Dela Rosa also expressed his gratitude to the public, and to the policemen who sacrificed their lives in the name of service.

“Gusto ko lang, from the bottom of my heart magpapasalamat ako sa inyong lahat, sa kapulisan, sa lahat ng ating nakamit sa taong ito,” he said.

(I just want, from the bottom of my heart, to thank you all for the achievements we attained this year.)

“May mga kasamahan tayong nagbuwis ng buhay, ibang kasamahan nagkasira-sira ang pamilya dahil napabayaan, yung ibang kasamahan natin nagkakasakit dahil pina-priority ang serbisyo,” he added. /jpv
