DepEd to launch ‘Brigada Eskwela’ in Marawi City
The Department of Education (DepEd) will launch next week its three-day special “Brigada Eskwela” that aims to start the rebuilding of schools damaged in the five-month terrorist siege of Marawi City.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones will lead on Dec. 13 to 15 Brigada Eskwela in the city, where 22 schools were totally destroyed and another 40 suffered major damages.
A total of around 27,000 students were displaced by the siege in May. These students are now enrolled in various schools nationwide.
To date, Briones said that pledges from the private sector were still pouring into the agency.
She said that DepEd would need around P2 billion to rebuild the damaged schools.
Companies that have signified their commitment to help rebuild Marawi schools are Aboitiz Foundation, Amway Philippines, Aspen Philippines Inc., Batang Filipino Farmers and CHEERS Foundation, Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, Cosmic Technologies Inc., Dole Philippines Inc.; First Consolidated Bank, GMA Kapuso Foundation and JG Summit Holdings. —Jovic Yee
