Gun-toting Caloocan councilor yields 17 sachets of shabu

A barangay councilor in Caloocan City was arrested on Friday after the police found sachets of “shabu” (crystal meth) and an unlicensed firearm in his house.

Barangay 118 Councilor Joemarie Dohinog now faces charges of illegal possession of firearms. He will also be charged with illegal drug possession but the case will be turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, said case investigator PO1 Niño Paguirigan.

Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo, Caloocan police chief, said they had received several complaints that Dohinog often flaunted his firearm and threatened residents with it, prompting them to ask Executive Judge Victoriano Cabaños of the Caloocan Regional Trial Court Branch 127 for a search warrant.

But when the police went to his house on 4th Street, they also found 17 sachets of shabu in one of his drawers along with his 9-mm gun and some ammunition, Modequillo added.
