Central Luzon 2-day transport strike cancelled; rally to be held instead

/ 05:34 PM December 03, 2017

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Makabayang Organisasyon ng mga Tsuper at Operator (Motor), the Central Luzon chapter of militant transport group Piston, and the No to Jeepney Phaseout Coalition scrapped their planned Dec. 4 and 5 transport strike, and will instead hold a protest rally at 10 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 4) at the Dolores intersection here.

The groups said the strike was scuttled in favor of a hearing requested by Senator Grace Poe, where the protestors alternative proposals to a public utility vehicle modernization program could be tackled, according to Centoy Manalastas, Motor chair.

The protesting groups oppose the modernization program of the Department of Transportation which would start with the phase-out of jeepneys in January.

Piston led the two-day transport strike that crippled Pampanga and other parts of Central Luzon on October 16 and 17. /je
