DOTr Usec. Cesar Chavez resigns over MRT-3 mess
Transportation Undersecretary Cesar Chavez resigned from his post on Thursday following the series of technical glitches that hit the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3).
“I’m tendering my irrevocable resignation. Hindi pwedeng lagi tayong naninisi sa nakaraan dahil sa responsibilidad na natin ito,” Chavez said in a press briefing.
(I’m tendering my irrevocable resignation. We cannot always blame the past because this is already our responsibility.)
In a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte through Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade dated November 23, Chavez said “simple sense of delicadeza” gave him no choice but to resign.
Article continues after this advertisement“I hope the President understands that in the light of recent events involving the MRT3 System, simple sense of delicadeza which I have adhered to throughout my professional life gives me no choice but to resign from m y said position,” he said.
Article continues after this advertisement“It also my intent and hope that that my resignation provides opportunity for the appointment of person better qualified to perform the duties and responsibilities of the subject office.”
“I am honored and privileged to have been given the trust and confidence for the subject position, and I hope that problems plaguing the MRT3 System be resolved properly and with dispatch,” Chavez added.
The resigned official vowed to continue to support the government’s programs and visions for the country especially in the rail transport sector. /kga
