4-year-old girl with rare form of liver cancer needs P30K for chemotherapy
Alliyah Nathania de Guzman was only 2 years old in May 2015 when she was diagnosed with stage 3 hepatoblastoma.
The very rare disease that starts in the liver was detected when Alliyah came down with recurring episodes of high fever, resulting in a month-long stay in the hospital, according to her 37-year-old mother, Rosalinda Torres.
Doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center recommended 16 cycles of chemotherapy for her daughter, now aged 4, Rosalinda said.
After nine cycles, the tumor in Alliyah’s liver has shrunk but tests showed that the cancer cells have spread to the lungs. Doctors are now focusing their attention on shrinking the tumor in her lungs as Rosalinda thinks her daughter is too young to be operated on.
Alliyah will undergo her 10th chemotherapy session on Nov. 21. She will need P30,000 for the procedure.
