Rainy All Saints’ Day as LPA becomes a storm

Signal Number 1 has been raised over three areas in the Visayas and the Southern Tagalog Region after a low pressure area has intensified into a tropical depression, which has been named “Ramil.’

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in much of Luzon and the Visayas amid the commemoration of All Saints’ Day, according to the weather bureau.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 has been raised over Northern Palawan, including the Calamian Group of Islands; Aklan and Antique.

Storm Ramil developed as Filipinos trooped to cemeteries to remember their dead. Filipinos traditionally start visiting cemeteries on All Saints’ Day up to All Souls’ Day on Nov. 2.

Metro Manila, the Bicol region, and the Southern Tagalog Region’s CALABARZON and MIMAROPA are expected to experience light to heavy rain, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Residents in these areas, which are within the 200-kilometer diameter of the storm, should be alert against flashfloods and landslides, Pagasa said.

The weather bureau said sea travel would be risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon. Frances Mangosing /cbb
