Comelec deputizes DILG, Napolcom
As the country awaits the signing of the law postponing the barangay and youth elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deputized the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to monitor any threats to the polls.
The poll body, in its Resolution No. 10210, designated the DILG and Napolcom to make periodic assessments of the peace and order situation in possible election hotspots and recommend measures to ensure free, orderly, honest, peaceful and credible elections.
The DILG and Napolcom were also assigned to secure the polling centers, canvassing centers, paraphernalia, equipment and other supplies, which would be used for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
“The DILG and Napolcom are hereby deputized … to deploy at the least time possible, troops for election duty in coordination with the concerned regional director, provincial election supervisor, and election officer,” Comelec said. —Tina G. Santos
