1st-class travel by exec earns Duterte’s ire

/ 07:30 AM August 24, 2017

President Rodrigo Duterte is displeased with a government official who apparently enjoyed luxurious travel accommodations.

Mr. Duterte did not identify the official, who he said flew first class and slept in hotel suites when going abroad, but he said this would come out. He said the official was not from the executive department.

He mentioned the official’s actions as he spoke of his efforts to rid the government of corruption during dinner with the Philippine Air Force’s dragon boat team on Tuesday.

Mr. Duterte discussed the unnamed official’s jet-setting ways as he recalled that he had fired administration officials for alleged corruption.

He also said he disliked it when officials traveled with a lot of bodyguards and used sirens and special plates.—Leila B. Salaverria
