Bato condoles with slain cops’ families in Guihulngan City

CEBU CITY – Philippine  National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa arrived in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental on Saturday  to condole with the families of the six policemen killed in an ambush by New People’s Army (NPA) guerillas in the city’s hinterland village on Friday.
Dela Rosa, who came with top-ranking officers of the Police Regional Office in Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), went directly to the wake of  Superintendent Arnel Arpon, the city’s chief of police.
Arpon and six of his men died while three other policemen were wounded when 60  heavily armed rebels waylaid the police jeep they were riding.  The policemen were heading for Guihulngan’s Barangay Magsaysay, where a city councilor, Edison dela Rita, was earlier ambushed by the same group. Dela Rita’s aide was killed while the councilor and his driver were wounded but survived the attack.  Arpon’s wife, who was interviewed by Inquirer by phone, cut short the interview upon the arrival of the PNP Chief.
