Rendezvous in Manila turns deadly

A 32-year-old woman’s first meeting with her text mate at the Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila, turned out to be a bad idea as she was repeatedly stabbed, wounded and then left for dead. Arlene Krouse, a resident of Novaliches, Quezon City, remains confined at Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Hospital for four stab wounds in the body. Reports from the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5 showed that the victim was taken to the hospital after she was found at 8:45 p.m. on Monday by a resident of Baseco Compound, lying on the ground and bleeding. As barangay (village) officials were bringing her to the nearest hospital, she confided that she was there to meet her text mate when she was attacked by two men. The police said that nothing was taken from the victim and speculated that she was probably attacked because she was new to the area.—Jeannette I. Andrade
