DID YOU KNOW: National No Smoking Month

June was declared National No Smoking Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 183 signed on May 30, 1993 by then President Fidel V. Ramos. The declaration was part of the awareness campaign of the Department of Health and coincided with the World Health Organization’s annual celebration of “World No Tobacco Day.” Last May 16, President Duterte signed Executive Order No. 26 that listed standards for designated smoking areas, banned minors from using, selling, or buying cigarette or tobacco products, and prohibited the sale of these products within 100 meters from places frequented by minors.  —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
