DID YOU KNOW: Department of Agriculture (DA)

12:30 AM May 17, 2017

The Department of Agriculture (DA) was established by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 461 signed on May 17, 1974, by then President Marcos. The decree split the existing Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources into the DA and Department of Natural Resources. In June 1984, the DA was renamed Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF). On Jan. 30, 1987, then President Corazon Aquino issued Executive Order No. 116, which renamed and reorganized MAF into the DA as it is known today. The DA main office is on Elliptical Road, Quezon City.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
