2 tourists drown in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — Two tourists drowned in separate incidents in Pangasinan province on Sunday.

Joel Solon, 49, of Taguig City, was swept by a strong current in the waters off Patar Beach in Bolinao town at about 7 a.m. Rescuers found his body 45 minutes later.

In Pozorrubio town, Jessie Ruiz, 28, a construction worker from Tuba town in Benguet province, failed to surface after diving into a deep portion of the Malasin River.

Ruiz’s companions and village residents pulled him out of the water. He was brought to the Pozorrubio Community Hospital but was pronounced dead by an attending physician.

Police said Ruiz was drunk when he took the plunge. CBB
