1 dead, 22 hurt in two Maundy Thursday accidents near Baguio
BAGUIO CITY — A university student died and 22 others were hurt in two road accidents on Maundy Thursday along roads leading to Baguio City.
The student was headed down to Pangasinan, along with 14 other passengers, in a commuter van when a 4:30 p.m. rockslide crushed the front of their vehicle at Camp 1 along Kennon Road, said Rafael Valencia, president of volunteer rescue organization 911 On Call.
People in the area managed to pull out the passengers and driver who were brought to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC). But the student died along the way, Valencia said.
Kennon Road was briefly closed to allow work crews to clear the crash site. Traffic there has resumed as of posting time.
Earlier at 7:10 a.m., a bus fell on its side at 7:10 a.m. on Naguillian Road on Tuba town in Benguet province, injuring 8 of its 10 passengers. Six of them suffered mild injuries, but two passengers were badly hurt and were brought to the BGHMC. /atm
