School principal killed in Pangasinan road accident

DAGUPAN CITY — A public school principal was killed Monday morning when the tricycle he was driving crashed into a motorcycle as he drove through the Romulo Highway along Mangatarem town in Pangasinan province, police said Tuesday.

Samuel de Vera, 49, principal of Bueno Elementary School in Mangatarem, died while undergoing treatment in a hospital. The motorcycle driver, Jerome Hitoroza, 33, survived the collision that took place at 7:55 a.m. in Barangay Pogonlomboy.

Police said De Vera was on the south-bound lane of the highway when he overtook another vehicle.  However, the wheel of his tricycle’s side car struck the front wheel of a car that was attempting to overtake him.

The impact caused De Vera to lose control of the tricycle which crashed into Hitoroza’s motorcycle on the opposite lane. CBB
