Armed men torch heavy equipment in Cagayan

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — Six armed men torched heavy equipment used for a road construction project on Sunday night (March 26) at Alcala town in Cagayan province, an Army official said.

The men attacked a heavy equipment depot of the Pulsar Construction Corp. in Baybayog village and torched two backhoes and a compactor, said Lt. Col. Rembert Baylosis, commander of the Army’s 17th Infantry Battalion.

The armed men fled using an Isuzu Elf truck, also owned by Pulsar, which they abandoned and burned in Adauag village in nearby Baggao town, about 1 kilometer from the depot.

The owner said the attack cost him P10 million in damage, Baylosis said.

No group has claimed responsibility, the Army official said.
