Cops recover 2 vehicles from rent-a-car scam

LUCENA CITY – Police on Friday recovered two vehicles in Dolores town in Quezon province that have gone missing after their owners fell for a rent-a-car scam, police said Saturday.

Senior Insp. Fortune Dianne Bernardo, Dolores police chief, said the victim, Joselito Jimenez, sought the help of local police after he located his missing car, a Toyota Hi-lux, in Barangay (village) Sta. Lucia via GPS (Global Positioning System), a vehicle tracking system.

Police found the vehicle in the possession of one Angel Faraon.

Aside from Jimenez’s vehicle, police also found a Mitsubishi Montero which was registered to Sandy Eliscupidez Isidro of San Ildefonso, Bulacan in Faraon’s possession

Faraon claimed that the two vehicles were sold to him by one Rafaela Anunciacion.

Bernardo said Jimenez was victimized by a Laguna-based rent-a-car-scam which lures owners of brand new cars with P40,000 monthly rental fee for a three-month contract.

“The victim was paid for the first month but no more in the next two months until the car was gone and the victim realized that he was duped,” Bernardo said in a phone interview. The vehicles were brought to the Highway Patrol Group office in Lucena City for proper disposition. CDG
