Brother of Pempengco murder suspect nabbed in Laguna

CAMP PACIANO RIZAL, Philippines—An older brother of the suspect in the murder of Ricky Pempengco was arrested in Mabitac, Laguna, Wednesday for a separate case of murder, police said.

Police arrested Armando Capili by virtue of an arrest warrant in connection with the murder of a certain Bruchev de Vela in 2002.

He was arrested early Wednesday  in Barangay (village) Lambac, Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna police director, said by phone.

Armando is the brother of Angel Capili, 35, a suspect in the killing of Ricky Pempengco, father of international singing sensation Charice, before midnight on Monday in San Pedro, Laguna.

Armando failed to give information about his brother’s whereabouts, the police said.

Cruz said three tracking teams were deployed in the provinces of Cavite and Quezon and in the Bicol Region to hunt down Angel.

Also on Wednesday, the reward for any information that may help in the arrest of Angel was doubled to P200,000. The money came from Laguna Gov. Jeorge “ER” Ejercito and San Pedro Mayor Calixto Cataquiz.
