Cops nab 5 bet collectors in Quezon raid
LUCENA CITY, Quezon—Police on Tuesday raided an alleged illegal gambling den and arrested five suspected illegal bet collectors of Small Town Lottery (STL) operation called “bookies” in Tayabas City, police said.
A police report released Wednesday said operatives staged the raid in one of the residential houses in Green Heights Subdivision in Barangay (village) Lalo at around 5:30 p.m. after residents tipped off the authorities on the illegal gambling operation.
The raiders caught the suspects – Ronnie Alcantara, Dexter Semato, Joey Bergara, Vergel Maranan and Tomas Segone Jr. – while in the act of revising and sorting lottery bets. Police seized P7,325 on collected bets and assorted illegal lottery paraphernalia.
The suspects failed to produce legitimate identification cards issued by Pirouette Gaming Corp., the licensed STL operator in Quezon, which meant the group was engaged in illegal bookies operation.
The suspects are detained at Tayabas police jail.
