/ 12:05 AM January 24, 2017

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 6847 signed on Jan. 24, 1990 by President Corazon Aquino. Its objectives are to increase Filipinos’ participation in sports and achieve excellence in sports performance. One of its forerunners was the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation established in 1911 when the country was still under the American administration. In 1974, then President Ferdinand Marcos established the Department of Youth and Sports Development. The PSC office is located at the Rizal Memorial Complex on Pablo Ocampo Sr. Street in Malate, Manila. —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
