LUCENA CITY – A 60-year-old woman died when her nipa hut was crushed by a fallen tree in Mulanay town in Quezon province at the height of Typhoon “Nina” (international name: Nick-ten) early Monday.

Senior Insp. Bonna Obmerga, Mulanay police chief, said the victim, Locela Pegira, was pinned and killed inside her hut in Barangay (village) Pakiing around 2 a.m.

“Strong winds toppled down the tree. Unfortunately it fell on the hut,” Obmerga said over the phone.

The victim’s husband, Romeo Pegira, 58,  who was also inside the hut when the accident happened, survived but was hurt after he was hit by debris.
