Diwanag Festival
The name of this Christmas lights festival is a portmanteau of Cebuano phrase, “diwa nga masanag,” which also means “spirit of light.” Celebrated in Montevista town in Compostela Valley province, the municipal hall grounds is transformed into a panorama of lights.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Fluvial processions for the feast of the Immaculate Conception in Taal town in Batangas province and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province. Meanwhile, trade fairs and cultural shows are held in Puerto Galera town in Oriental Mindoro province and Cotabato City.

Puto Festival
A celebration in Calasiao town in Pangasinan province, where puto (rice cake), considered the town’s “white gold,” is sold almost all day in the town center. Festivities include puto design contest, street dancing and concerts.

Valencia in Bukidnon province becomes a city in 2000. The city was once a part of Malaybalay City, the provincial capital.

The heritage city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur province makes it to the New7Wonders Cities of the world in 2014, joining Beirut, Doha, Durban, Havana, Kuala Lumpur and La Paz. Some 1,200 cities from 220 countries had been nominated in the global competition of Swiss nonprofit New7Wonders Foundation.

Meycauayan in Bulacan province is converted into a city in 2006. Major industries of the city include manufacturing of leather products and jewelry.
