Around 200 families evacuate homes in Capiz due to ‘Marce’

ILOILO CITY—Around 200 families or about 1,000 persons in Capiz evacuated their homes on Friday due to flooding in areas hit by Tropical Storm “Marce.”

The affected residents were from the towns of Maayon, Tapaz, Panay, Dao, Sigma, Ivisan and Dumalag and Roxas City, said Esperedion Pelaez, executive officer of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office.

Flooding of ricelands was also reported in the towns of Cuartero, Maayon and Mambusao, according to Pelaez.

The coast guard in Iloilo also reported that about 60 fishing boats were damaged due to strong winds and big waves—eight in Carles town, 46 in Estancia and six in Concepcion.

Trips of motorboats plying between Iloilo City and Guimaras Island resumed at 2 p.m. but continued only until 6 p.m. The coast guard also limited the number of passengers to 75 percent of the boats’ capacity.
