2 Batangas cops return P140,000 cash found in cemetery
BATANGAS CITY – Two police officers returned P140,000 in cash they found in a pouch in a cemetery in Bauan town in Batangas province while on duty on All Saints’ Day, police said Thursday.
The pouch, containing receipts and cash, was found by Senior Police Officer 1 Jowel Ilagan Cantoria and PO1 Marvin Quilang Tumaliuan, both assigned at Bauan municipal police station, at Bauan cemetery in Barangay (village) Poblacion 3 on Nov. 1, Senior Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag, Batangas police director, said.
Cabanag said Cantoria and Tumaliuan, who were on duty at the cemetery, noticed from afar a pink pouch that fell from a woman’s bag later identified as Marieta Hernandez.
They immediately ran and recovered the pouch and tried to run after the owner but they failed to catch up with her, he said.
Upon opening the pouch, the two were surprised to find paper bills so they searched for Hernandez at the cemetery. When they could not locate her, they waited at the exit gate where the police assistance center was.
Later that day, Hernandez went to the assistance center asking for help to find her pouch.
“The act of SPO1 Cantoria and PO1 Tumaliuan exemplifies a true and genuine attribute of a member of the Philippine National Police worthy of emulation,” said Cabanag. CDG/rga
