8 airports closed, flights cancelled due to typhoon ‘Lawin’

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Thursday announced the closure of eight airports due to typhoon “Lawin” (international name: Haima), the strongest to hit the country this year, which battered northern Luzon.

In an advisory, CAAP said the following airports in Luzon were closed:

• Laoag in Ilocos Norte
• Vigan in Ilocos Sur
• Baguio in Benguet
• Lingayen in Pangasinan
• Tuguegarao in Cagayan
• Cauayan in Isabela
• Palanan in Isabela
• San Fernando in La Union

The Manila International Airport Authority also announced the cancellation of the following Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific flight due to the typhoon:

• PR2014 MANILA-TUGUEGARAO
• PR2015 TUGUEGARAO-MANILA
• PR2084 MANILA-BASCO
• PR2085 BASCO-MANILA
• PR2196 MANILA-LAOAG
• PR2197 LAOAG-MANILA
• 5J196/197 MANILA-CAUAYAN-MANILA
• 5J504/505 MANILA-TUGUEGARAO-MANILA
• 5J506/507 MANILA-TUGUEGARAO-MANILA

As of 11 a.m., the state weather bureau said Lawin, which made landfall in Cagayan late Wednesday night, continued to weaken as it moved away from land. Storm signals have also been lowered. IDL/rga
