The 1992 classic animation film was based on the folk tale of Aladdin, an impoverished lad who was granted three wishes by a genie trapped in a magic lamp. He later transforms into a well-off prince who woos Princess Jasmine and manages to defeat a villainous vizier.

The film harvested two Oscar awards, one for its theme song, “A Whole New World.”

Aladdin is part of Disney’s enchanting carousel of movie remakes slated to air in the upcoming years. After “The Jungle Book” wowed the film industry last April, the animation giant wants to replicate its success with “Beauty and the Beast,” which stars Emma Watson and which is set to be shown on March 17, 2017. Also, live-action remakes of “The Lion King” and “Mulan” are currently in progress. Gianna Francesca Catolico
