Miriam’s last wish: ‘Remain in memory of family’

The late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago had only wished to be remembered by her family, but the latter has asked the public not to forget her.

“Her wish before she passed on was only for her to remain in the memory of her own family,” the senator’s family said in a statement on Facebook late Sunday.

“What Miriam seemed to have forgotten is that for all Filipinos she moved, inspired, or touched, she was family,” they added.

Her family also took the opportunity to thank those who shared their grief.

Santiago, who succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 71 last Thursday, was laid to rest on Sunday. She was buried beside her son Alexander, who died in 2003.

The family has asked the public “to carve a space in your hearts for the Iron Lady of Asia, the dragon lady, the tiger lady, the queen of popularity polls, and the undisputed campus hero.”
