UST grad tops doctors’ exams

The recent physician licensure examination registered a 78-percent passing rate, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), with Jeri Charlotte Co Albano of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) topping all others with a grade of 89.50 percent.

In a statement Wednesday night, the PRC said that 2,899 of the 3,695 examinees passed the tests conducted by the Board of Medicine at testing centers in the cities of Manila, Cebu, Baguio and Davao on Sept. 10-11 and Sept. 17-18.

In second place was Albano’s schoolmate, Edwin Mark Lim Chiong, with a grade of 88.75 percent, and third was Rayan Abogado Oliva of St. Luke’s College of Medicine (SLCM) with a grade of 88.67 percent.

Harold Henrison Chang Chiu of the University of the Philippines Manila came in fourth with 88.58 percent, while Jose Kreisher Rae Bacosa Foscablo of West Visayas State University-La Paz and Brian Jann Rubenecia Balanquit of Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation came in fifth and sixth, respectively, with 88.50 percent and 88.42 percent.

Kevin Ano Elomina of De La Salle University-Health Sciences Institute and Jaffar Carag Pineda of UST tied at seventh, with a grade of 88.33 percent.

Kevin Michael Ramirez Yu of UST finished eighth with a rating of 88.25 percent, and Gwyn Panes Celo of WVSU–La Paz came in ninth with 88.17 percent.

Lorenz Kristoffer del Rosario Daga and Beverly Lynne Yao Ong, both of UST, tied at 10th place, with a grade of 88.08 percent.

The top performing schools were the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and SLCM, both with a 100-percent passing rate.

Second was UP Manila with a 98.67 percent passing rate; third, Cebu Institute of Medicine with 97.56 percent; fourth, Angeles University Foundation with 96.00 percent; and fifth, Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health–Pasig with 95.08 percent.

UST had the sixth highest passing rate with 94.84 percent; WVSU–La Paz, seventh with 93.81 percent; Cebu Doctors University–College of Medicine was eighth with 92.31 percent; University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, ninth with 91.5 percent; and Xavier University was 10th with 91.43 percent.
