A barangay chair in Pasay City was killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen on Thursday night. The police said William Abundo, chair of Barangay 168 in Malibay, was inside a billiard hall on C. Jose Street around 6:15 p.m., a few meters away from the barangay hall, when two armed men wearing helmets and black leather jackets entered and shot him.

The billiard hall’s caretaker, Dennis Barredo, was hit in the leg by a stray bullet. SPO2 Ricardo Mallong Jr., the officer on the case, said a background check on Abundo showed he was allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

But a female friend of Abundo denied the allegation, saying he was probably killed because he did not submit a list of drug suspects to the police under the “Oplan Tokhang” campaign. “[Abundo] told me that he did not want his friends who were into drugs to feel bad,” said the woman, who asked not to be named for security reasons.
