Beauty expert Ricky Reyes faces tax raps
Beauty expert and philanthropist Ricky Reyes is facing a complaint for allegedly failing to present his accounting books and records to authorities for examination.
In an affidavit, the Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a complaint against Reyes as the president of Ricky Reyes Holding Inc., with office address in San Juan City.
The tax agency charged Reyes for alleged violation of the Tax Reform Act of 1992.
Reached for comment by the Inquirer, Reyes said he would look into the matter first thing on Monday.
“I will make sure this is attended to first thing Monday morning. I have people handling this side of the business for me, and I have yet to clarify things with them. I never even saw this subpoena. In any case, it shouldn’t be a problem. I know my obligations and I see to it that I pay all my dues,” Reyes said.
The case pertains to Reyes’s alleged failure to present his books of account and other accounting records to the BIR for the taxable year 2009.

The agency issued a Tax Verification Notice 2003-00199095 on May 25, 2010, authorizing revenue officer Rodrigo Calar Jr. to check the 2009 records of Reyes’s company.
The notice was served to the company’s office on 172 Aurora Blvd. on June 9, 2010.
The BIR, however, claimed that Reyes or his representative allegedly failed to present the said records despite personal follow-ups and telephone calls.
To compel Reyes to submit his 2009 books of accounts, the agency issued a subpoena duces tecum on April 12, 2011.
The BIR then served the subpoena the following day, requesting Reyes or his representative to present the records to the Legal Division chief on April 29, 2011.
Despite service of the subpoena, Reyes failed to appear and submit the required documents, the complaint added.
