JORDAN, Guimaras, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PGC) and the Province of Guimaras can now dispatch faster and more efficient sea rescue and patrol operations as they start using a strategically located private wharf in this seaside capital town.

Flour, fertilizer and animal feed maker La Filipina Uygongco Group of Companies (LFUGC) – the firm that owns the private pier – has agreed to provide free berthing areas for the PCG’s emergency and patrol vessels, including rubber boats of the Guimaras Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).

As part of its social corporate responsibility, LFUGC said it supported government’s emergency response mandate especially during times of natural calamities. “Allowing free use of the wharf is our modest contribution to that effort,” the company said in a statement.

Based in Iloilo City, LFUGC is a diversified business conglomerate engaged in trading of agricultural products and production and sale of flour and bakery supplies nationwide. It is also involved in the distribution of various grades of fertilizer and is one of the country’s leading producers of animal feeds.
