DAGUPAN CITY – Two junior high school students drowned at the Bonuan Beach here on Sunday (June 12), police said on Monday.

Supt. Christopher Abrahano, police chief, identified the drowning victims as Karen Madraso, 14, a Grade 9 student, and Myla Carvajal, 15, a Grade 10 student. Both were residents of Barangay Bonuan Binloc, a coastal village here facing the Lingayen Gulf.

In a text message, Abrahano said the two girls were swimming when they were swept by strong waves to the deeper part of the gulf at about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Rescuers retrieved the girls’ bodies and took them to the Region 1 Medical Center but doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.  SFM/rga
