Nueva Ecija town village chief killed

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija—Motorcycle-riding gunmen killed the Bagong Sicat village chief of Talavera and wounded another man in Penaranda town Thursday morning.

Maximo Binuya, 58, was about to board a vehicle after attending a relative’s wake when he was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle at 8:30 a.m. in Barangay (village) Poblacion II. They also wounded the vehicle’s driver, Danilo Ibay, 41.

Binuya was the second Talavera village official killed during and after the election period.

In April, before the local polls, gunmen killed San Pascual village chief Gerald Fermin, who was running for a seat in the Talavera council. RAM/rga
