5 unidentified men shoots police officer in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines– Five still unidentified men shot and wounded a policeman in Naga City, southern Cebu, on Saturday morning.

A police team found Police Officer 2 Antonio Icalina bloodied lying on the pathway near the highway in Barangay (village) Langtad, Naga about 6:45 a.m.

Before he lost consciousness, Icalina told the policemen that five men blocked his way and shot him in the legs in the interior portion of Sitio (sub-village) Mohon, Langtad. Although wounded, he managed to crawl about 130 feet until he reached near the national highway.

The policeman was brought to the South General Hospital in Naga.

Senior Inspector Rolando Evalle, Naga police chief, ordered his men to dig deeper into the incident. Police Officer 1 Ronjie Nadorra, Naga city desk officer, said the investigation would determine the motive of the shooting and the identities of the culprits.

He added the probers also wanted to know what Icalina was doing in Mohon when the sub-village was a known drug haven.

Icalina was a native of Mandaue City and had been assigned in Naga before he was transferred to Tudela town.

Nadorra said investigators went to the interior portion of Mohon but the residents claimed they didn’t see any shooting or hear any gunshot.
