Roxas, Robredo camp: Duterte supporters harassing us like Nazis

The camp of Liberal Party bets Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo decried the alleged harassment of their supporters  by the followers of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and likened it to the persecution during the German Nazi regime.

“Daang Matuwid” coalition spokesperson and Akbayan Rep. Barry Gutierrez said they have been receiving reports that Duterte supporters are attacking supporters of Roxas and Robredo, not only on social media but also in their homes.

“Rocks are thrown at houses with Mar-Leni posters. These Duterte supporters urinate on their houses, or force the owners to put up posters of Mayor Duterte,” Gutierrez said in a media briefing at the LP headquarters on Monday.

“This violation of our homes echoes what the Nazis did in their quest for power. We all know what happened then, when those who were against them failed to unite and were cowed into silence. If they can already act this way, what more if their preferred candidate wins?” he added.

The spokesperson expressed alarm over the incidents and urged Duterte believers to campaign for their candidate in a decent way.

“Kung gusto niyong magkumbinsihan,magkumbinsihan tayo. Pero huwag naman ‘yung harassment na ganyan. May pambabato, may pambabastos, may pananakot,” Gutierrez said.

The camp of the administration candidates also reiterated its earlier plea to Duterte: To discipline his own ranks.

Gutierrez said he hopes that the harassment would not be a forecast of what the supporters of Duterte’s rival would experience if the mayor wins the elections.

“Kung ganito palang kaaga, ganyan na ang ginagawa ng kanyang mga supporter, kung ganito palang kaaga, nakakakita na tayo ng ganyang klaseng pananakot, at apparently tino-tolerate ng kanyang campaign, eh parang nadidismaya nalang ako kung anong mae-expect natin kung siya ang mahahalal,” he said.

To the voters who believe in decency, Gutierrez urged them to rally behind Roxas and Robredo.

“Let’s rally to Mar and Leni. We will win against those who use fear and violence to get their ends. These cowards are no match for our courage,” he added. JE
