DAVAO CITY – The Aboitiz-owned Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) has announced that the city will experience a maximum of four hours of daily power interruption.

The power distribution company explained that the continuing power interruption has been caused by a problem in supply and has worsened after a newly constructed coal-fired power plant suffered another issue on Wednesday.

“We have received an advice that one unit of the TSI coal-fired power plant had an emergency shutdown a few minutes earlier. The Mindanao-grid deficit is now at 120 MW from this morning’s 80 MW,” the DLPC said in a bulletin.

“This will now result in a maximum of 4 hours … of rotating power interruption within our franchise,” the DLPC said.

Residents have been experiencing an hour to an hour and a half of rotating brownout since last week.

The DLPC said announcements would be made if the situation improved, but it was still not known, as of Wednesday, when the new Aboitiz-owned coal plant would be fully operational again.

“We’ll post an announcement should there be an improvement in the supply situation. We’re very sorry for this inconvenience,” DLPC said.  SFM
