In Cesafi All Star Game; Avillanoza, Capillar top slam dunk, 3-point tilts
THE Dark Team turned to the deadly shooting of Cebu Eastern College sniper Marvin Bauya to post a close, 84-80, victory in the juniors division all star game during yesterday’s 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.(CESAFI) basketball tournament All Star Event at the Cebu Coliseum.
Bauya scored 17 points marked by five triples that lifted his squad to victory and the bragging rights for the entire year. For his efforts, Bauya was awarded a trophy, a mobile phone by Globe and a mouthguard.
The Dark Team actually started off sluggishly as it fell behind, 14-22, after the opening canto. However, they recovered in the ensuing period by outscoring the Light Team, 25-16, for a 39-38 halftime lead.
University of the Visayas ace guard Nelson Peralta spearheaded that charge with five points while his teammate Paul Desiderio, CEC hotshots Luther Huevos and Alfred Sedillo and University of San Carlos star wingman, Ian Ortega added four points each.
Dark continued its onslaught in the third with Bauya waxing hot from behind the arc with two three-point bombs, while Huevos and Rex Villarosa added four points apiece, to tow the Dark Team to a 62-52 lead.
The Light Team though, did not fold up easily in the fourth period as Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu star center Julius Cadavis imposing his will down low with 11 markers. Nikko Otadoy of Cebu Institute of Technology-University and Rommel Diapera of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation also combined for 16 to help the team keep Dark within striking distance.

Article continues after this advertisementLyle Sumayang, also of CEC, scored 12 to help the Dark Team while Dawn Ochea of Ateneo de Cebu paced the losing squad with 20 markers as Cadavis added 17.
Meanwhile, the slam dunk competition was won by UV beanpole Andrew Avillanoza who rocked the rim with his two-handed flushes. Banjo Capillar of the University of San Jose-Recoletos won the three-point shootout beating Luigi Bercede of the University of Cebu in the finals, 13-12.
